Top 5 Android Tablets

January 11th, 2011 - matt

Over the holidays it seems, in my life at least, that everyone got an e-book reader. From the Nook to the Kindle to the Kobo, they seem to be everywhere this year. After seeing how useful that they are, I started to think that I would like to have a similar device that would allow me to carry hundreds of books on the go. However, being a technical guy, I am looking for a few more features in my device, music, video, internet and email would also be nice to have as I also travel quite a bit. I have been doing a lot of research, read (and watched) a number of reviews and I have built Geek Power Web Designs Top 5 Android Tablets.

Allowing iframes and embeds in the editor

November 15th, 2010 - Joe

Last week a client of ours pointed out an issue he was having with the use of the <embed> tag and the <iframe> so after some investigating I found that this is a common issue with Joomla, I should also mention that we use JCE editor with our set up of Joomla so to fix this issue we need to take care of the Joomla settings and the JCE settings.

Shank

November 10th, 2010 - Joe

In an age of 3d games and realistic graphics, it is extremely rare to see a good 2d sidescroller. Playing this game reminded me of the times I used to sit down with my little brother to play Double Dragon on Nintendo.

Always the case…

November 9th, 2010 - matt

In my blog series on my Artificial Intelligence Project this is post #2.

Well, as is the case with any large project, it is looking like it is going to get very complicated, very quickly. I started flow charting the program flow and laying out class diagrams and am starting to realize why I can’t already talk to my fridge. However, I am not alone in the quest to talk to appliances. In fact, there are annual competitions where developers try to create the most realistic chatter-bots.

Site Search Without a Database

November 9th, 2010 - Joe

One of the things I have been working on recently was a search engine script for one of our clients.

Originally I figured that I would easily find a script that would do exactly what I wanted, though I did find many amazing and powerful scripts I was restricted by the fact that this particular project did not have a database to work with and setting up a database for searching through such a small project was just not necessary. So instead I found a much weaker script which searched a single directory for file names matching the search query, this was useful because from there I was able to expand its capability.

Artificial Intelligence Project

November 2nd, 2010 - matt

If you have ever seen an episode of Star Trek or a futuristic movie you have probably heard someone say to a computer,  “Dim Lights” or “Tea, Earl Grey – Hot”.  While this is both interesting and impressive, it isn’t really isn’t talking, it is more like giving orders.  Wouldn’t it be neat to have a conversation with a computer instead?

Becoming a Better Salesman

November 1st, 2010 - josh

What makes a good salesman? How do you become an expert in the sales field?

I have been in sales for nearly a decade now and I still believe I am far from becoming a veteran salesman.  I have spent the last 3 years focused on sales for Geek Power Web Design Toronto.  Over the years I have been constantly learning and updating my skills.  I don’t think anyone can ever claim to have truly mastered the art of sales, every industry, client, and situation is completely different from the next.  That being said, I have come to some very important understandings.

Barrie Web Review

October 27th, 2010 - Chris Bishop

Being a Web Developer I spend a lot of time working with Web Hosts.    I need to call them up to setup accounts for clients or trouble shoot problems my client might be experiencing.  My experience with the technical support at a web hosting company has varied.  There have been times when I called up a technical support line for a host and was talking to the new guy or gal on the job, other times I was speaking with the person who had all the answers.

I recently dealt with a web host and the experience really stood out to me and I decided I would write up a review about the host.

Banned by Google for too many queries

October 27th, 2010 - Chris Bishop

I just got banned from Google on my home pc.

Now that’s frustrating.  I use Firefox and the SEO Toolbar to check out the statistics of websites that I visit.  I never thought that it would get me banned from Google but at this very moment of writing this post I cannot search Google.
